What is Doctor’s Best Lumbrokinase?

Doctor’s Best Lumbrokinase provides enzymatic support to help maintain cardiovascular function.* Lumbrokinase is the name of a group of highly stable fibrinolytic enzymes. These proteolytic enzymes have been studied and utilized extensively in China for many years. Research suggests that lumbrokinase may have beneficial effects on the cardiovascular system.* Fibrinolytic enzymes are essential enzymes that break down excess fibrin in the body. These enzymes eliminate excess fibrin that that forms scar tissue inside blood vessels, kidneys and brain as well as in muscles. Doctor’s Best Lumbrokinase helps break down proteins facilitating the removal of cell debris.*

I noticed Doctor's Best Lumbrokinase makes no mention of it being enteric coated, does this fact affect the absorption of the product?  Or does lumbrokinase remain stable even after being exposed to stomach acids?

Lumbrokinase is heat-stable so it resists thermal denaturation. It has a very broad optimal pH range which indicates that it can survive the stomach environment. Lumbrokinase has actually been reported to be stable in a range of pH 1.0-11.0 (Verma and Pulicherla 2011).

Furthermore, because lumbrokinases have unique protein sequences, along with distinct secondary structures (alpha-helix, coil, etc), it is considered a complex of "strong serine proteases". The catalytic ability of a compound is influenced by this unique and strong structure, and it is thought that this structure causes lumbrokinase to be resistant to degradation by some enzymes (very possibly pancreatic enzymes); making it more likely to reach the small intestine for absorption than other enzymes (Yan et al 2010; Verma and Pulicherla 2011).

Does Doctor's Best Lumbrokinase contain any corn?

Trace amounts of corn maltodextrin is used to stabilize the Lumbrokinase enzyme. If you are sensitive to corn, we would not recommend that you take the product.

What is the country of origin for Doctor's Best products?
