Is Your Immune System Working?

Is Your Immune System Working?

Supplements That Can Help to Keep You Healthy

I have a question for you. When is the last time you thought about your immune system? I know, it’s not something we think much about. Most of us understand that our immune system is there to protect us from germs, at least, we hope it is.

But do you really understand what your immune system is and what it does? To keep it simple, your immune system is like an alarm system that is protecting you and your family from intruders entering your home. There are several parts to it like cameras, motion sensors, and alarms, but they all focus on one goal, keeping your family safe.

Your Immune System Works the Same Way.

It is there to protect you from viruses, germs, and illnesses that would like nothing more than to invade your system, making you feel miserable.

So, the question is, can we really boost our immune system to keep us healthy, even when those around us are getting sick? Fortunately, there are steps we can take to help.

Just as lifestyle choices like ditching smoking and eating a healthy diet can have a positive influence on your health, adding supplements can make an impact as well.

Even though we try to get all of our vitamins and minerals from healthy foods, it’s not always easy to get enough, so supplementing with vitamins can help to fill those gaps.

Cleveland Clinic's 3

So, the question is, what supplements will give you the biggest bang for your immunity boosting buck? According to the Cleveland Clinic, there are three important vitamins for health.

Vitamin C
If you are serious about boosting your immune system, vitamin C is an important piece of the puzzle, offering a variety of immune functions such as increasing antibody responses and enhancing white blood cell functions that fight disease.

B Vitamins
Play a big part in reducing stress and giving you energy while supporting biochemical reactions in the body.

Vitamin E
This antioxidant that helps fight off infection and keeps white blood cells safe from damage.

Although these are the top three vitamins that can help, you can’t forget about additional stressors that can interfere with your immune system doing its job. Things like chronic stress, a diet high in sugar and processed foods and excessive alcohol use all play a part in lowering the immune system.

Having a healthy immune system takes more than a one-pronged approach, it’s important to eat well, get enough sleep, drink plenty of water, exercise regularly and use supplements to enhance a healthy diet.
