Available in 180 Vegetarian Capsule Size
SAN CLEMENTE, Calif., –– Doctor's Best has introduced Best 5-HTP into its dietary supplement line. Scott Steinford, president of Doctor's Best, made the announcement. This product is available in 180 vegetarian capsules, each providing 100 milligrams of the amino acid 5-hydroxy-L-tryptophan (5-HTP).
Best 5-HTP provides the naturally occurring amino acid 5-hydroxy-L-tryptophan, which can be produced in the body from dietary L-tryptophan. Synthesis of the neurotransmitter serotonin is the only known biochemical function of 5-HTP in humans. It is the direct precursor to serotonin synthesis via the enzyme aromatic amino acid decarboxylase, which requires vitamin B6 as a cofactor. The hormone melatonin is produced from serotonin in the pineal gland via two additional enzymatic reactions, the first of which is regulated by the catecholamine neurotransmitter, norepinephrine. Therefore, 5-HTP is also the necessary indirect metabolic precursor to melatonin synthesis in the human body. Best 5-HTP is extracted and purified from the seeds of Griffonia simplicifolia.
When in proper balance with amino acid precursors of catecholamine neurotransmitters, 5-HTP supports all serotonin mediated functions throughout the body.* This includes support for healthy mental, emotional, and cognitive function, healthy neural function, healthy sleep, hormonal balance, appetite, and healthy gastrointestinal function.*
