Healthy Travel: Seven Tips to Keep You Healthy

If you love to travel, you know that although it’s exciting, it can also be pretty stressful. Between long lines, delays, pushy people, fast food, and exhaustion, the whole experience can have you throwing up your hands on trying to keep up healthy habits.

But what if we could offer some simple ideas to keep your healthy habits intact while enjoying the experience of traveling? These seven tips can help to keep you on track and feeling great.

Find your center. There are a lot of things you can’t control while traveling, so let go of those and focus on what you can control. Deep breathing, meditation, and music can help you to relax, even when things aren’t going according to the plan. Stress is responsible for so much illness, so do whatever you need to do to keep it in check.

Pack healthy snacks. We all know what it’s like to realize in the frenzy of getting out the door, we have forgotten to eat. Of course, airports always have some type of fast food available that will derail your healthy eating in a second. Making a habit of always carrying fruit, nuts, and raw veggies will keep you on track.

Hydrate. Drinking plenty of water is always important, but when traveling it’s even more so. Flying can dehydrate us which makes us feel sick so drink water before, during and after a day of travel.

Take your vitamins. Taking vitamins can help to strengthen your immune system, ward off germs and keep viruses at bay. Planes aren’t known for having a lot of fresh air so be proactive in making sure you’re healthy before you take off.

Don’t forget to workout. Getting away from our usual routines is what a vacation is all about, but that doesn’t mean to give up on moving. Find new, fun activities to try so you can keep up with your fitness goals.

Relax. Worrying about every little thing isn’t good for your health, and it can suck the fun out of your vacation. Let go of anything that’s been bothering you. Whatever it is, it will be waiting for you when you get home.

Make memories. Vacations are a time to reconnect with family, make new friends, and enjoy yourself. Take those photos, laugh a lot, and enjoy good food. We only live once, so get out there and enjoy yourself!
