Nutritional Powerhouse Combo: CoQ10 & Selenium

The Nutritional Powerhouse Combination of CoQ10 & Selenium

The Benefits You Can’t Ignore

When it comes to powerful combinations, it would be difficult to find any that offer more benefits than CoQ10 and Selenium. Although each of them has amazing benefits on their own, when you combine them, they become a nutritional powerhouse that can change the game when it comes to health issues relating to cardiovascular health.

What is CoQ10?

CoQ10 is a coenzyme that assists in energizing cells and an antioxidant that protects cells. The antioxidant properties of CoQ10 are important in boosting energy for several body systems that include the immune system, the brain, skin, gum health, and assists in exercise capacity, but the most important benefit is how it supports heart health.

The aging process itself can decrease levels of CoQ10 but adding other factors such as poor absorption and statin drugs may actually cause a deficiency in this vital coenzyme. In order to replenish CoQ10, supplements may be necessary.

What is Selenium?

Selenium is a trace mineral that is found naturally in soil and water and is made up of about two dozen Selenoproteins, which are vital in a variety of the body’s processes that include thyroid function, reproduction, metabolism, immune and endocrine systems and protect us from oxidative stress.

Although Selenium is found in soil and water and eventually ends up in our food chain, it can be difficult to find in many areas making it easy to have an unknown deficiency.  In order to be sure you have enough, eating foods that contain Selenium is an important part of a healthy diet.

Many everyday foods contain adequate amounts of Selenium, and include Brazil nuts, tuna, sunflower seeds, a variety of sea-food, broccoli and a variety of other easy to find foods.

CoQ10 and Selenium Together

What makes the combination of CoQ10 and Selenium so important is their power to protect us against cardiovascular illnesses, which is the leading cause of mortality, affecting more than seventeen million people around the world every year.

Unfortunately, that fact doesn’t usually make the impact it should until you disclose that cardiovascular health concerns affect more people than all types of cancer combined.

What’s so amazing about the combination of CoQ10 and Selenium is that they work together to combat against oxidative stress, improve heart function and improve quality of life.

A Swedish study conducted by Dr. Alehaghen and his colleagues from LinkfØing University in Sweden has found that taking CoQ10 & Selenium lowers risks of cardiovascular concerns by improving cellular function.

Because both CoQ10 and Selenium help in managing cellular energy, which protects the body from oxidative stress which has been shown to speed up the aging process, cellular function improves which leads to improvements in heart health.

The study included four-hundred and forty-three healthy adults between the ages of seventy years old and eighty-eight years old with one group receiving a placebo while the other was given the combination of CoQ10 and Selenium.

There was a five-year follow-up that found results that were significant among those participants that received CoQ10 and Selenium, showing a reduction in cardiovascular events by fifty percent.

Even ten years later, after CoQ10 and Selenium were discontinued, researchers found that participants that included both men and women, had spent less time in the hospital and had a better quality of life.

The surprise was that all those years later, they still enjoyed the life-saving benefits with a 49% lower cardiovascular mortality risk.

This study makes it clear that the benefits of combining CoQ10 and Selenium will have a huge impact on how we view cardiovascular concerns and offer a simple solution for managing our own cardiovascular health.
